ESOL outreach programme

Let us come to you!

Working alongside Karen Foley on her Family Learning Programme, KCLC has been delivering ESOL to EAL parents in local schools. KCLC has been delivering ESOL to the local community for over 10 years, at all levels, from pre entry to level 2, but has only recently started its outreach programme.

The programme has been so successful that we are now able to offer it to a wider audience, all that is needed is a group of people who want to improve their English language skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening.

The sessions have been really well received :
“Suzanne has built up an amazing rapport with parents … she was friendly and respectful towards parents and her lessons were always fun and at a pace that made it easier for parents to follow and understand…..would not hesitate to contact her for more sessions…..”
Nikki Cavanagh, Family Link Worker, Pheonix Primary School.

We have the proven ability to provide quality, differentiated sessions to students of all abilities, from pre entry to level 2, and are able to offer progression routes onto more formal internal courses, and accredited courses delivered through the WEA at KCLC.

About the course

The 10 week programme, taught in English, is for 2 hours per week, and timings can be built in around school/work times, so students are able to attend while their children are in class, which means there are fewer childcare issues.

KCLC appreciates that there may not be enough demand for ESOL classes within your organisation to put on a range of courses at a variety of levels, so the differentiation required to accommodate all learners’ abilities, is embedded heavily within each class:
  • Speaking, listening, reading and writing are included within every session.
  • Lots of basic writing practice and exercises for students who have never used the English alphabet, e.g. ABCs and basic vocabulary exercises, appropriate to the session is included to ensure that everyone is included, irrespective of their level
  • Plenty of additional exercise and activities for stronger learners to keep students’ interest and focus on their development, and progression.
Paired and group activities help stronger learners to develop even further by helping those who are struggling. This also creates and builds upon bonds and friendships between students from different communities, cultures and countries.

Each session is very much adapted to the students’ needs, but topics include:
